Tea Room Ginza (Ebisu)

Let’s immersed ourselves in a old movie scenery, just few steps away from Ebisu train station…The cute little kissaten where I’m bringing you today, owned by a mother and her daughter, is the perfect spot to let our imagination run wild.

I found this place completely by chance. I was looking for a store around Ebisu train station and I think I probably missed the street and walked by Tea Room Ginza. It looked really nice so I decided to get in and have a coffee while looking for the store on google maps..

I sat next to the window, an adorable spot that made me feel very relaxed. The café is surrounded by greens so it gives a nice refreshing feeling. I love the flowers all around the café, it feels like an inside garden or something like that. Everything here is just what I like: comfy old red leather seats, showa era’s decoration, greens and flowers and, of course, subdued lighting.

The menu is quite big with a lot of choices of drinks and food; you can even get a lunch menu for 900 yen (with curry, hayashi rice, tarako spaghetti etc…). And for people like me, obsessed with sweets and sugar, oh dear… The « cream parfait » seems to be a must and the osusume (recommendation) here but they also have, among a bunch of mouthwatering things, chocolate toast and pancakes. I decided to go for the pancakes (500 yen) but kept it simple for the drink: plain dark drip coffee (450 yen).

You can’t imagine how much I enjoyed this place… Even if, I finally couldn’t find the « ghost store » that brought me here! I felt very comfortable and the old lady running the business with her daughter is adorable, I could feel her strong personality but she was really sweet, asking me where I come from and so on.
Apparently a bunch of movies and CM have been filmed there. Magazines came here for photo shoots as well. I totally got it, as the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic/dramatic scene. I can easily picture in my head a scene in this café with a couple swearing to each other eternal love even if this love is impossible. (I have a thing for this kind of old movies with star-crossed lovers…)

Usually I feel like kissaten are not a good spot when you’re going out with many friends, tables are small, space is tight… But actually here, there is this space with more seats, a perfect spot for a enjoying there with a bunch of friends or having an informal work meeting.

This place was really a nice surprise. It’s been a long time I didn’t find a kissaten like that, completely by chance. I miss this kind of opportunity… With google maps and Internet, it’s easier to find a new café to try but sadly, it reduces your chance to explore and find something nice without expecting it.
If you’re around Ebisu, it’s definitely a must-try. Maybe you’ll meet me, gazing out, near a window.
I really have to go there again to give a try to the « cream parfait » (and feeling like a old movie actress!).

Bonus: United Arrows promotional video filmed there
