About Retro Tabi Tokyo

Retro Tabi Tokyo is born from the desire to bring informations in english about old traditional japanese coffee shops.
Tabi means “travel” in japanese and it’s what is offered here: a time travel in old traditional coffee shops of Tokyo and Japan to find out more about the roots of japanese coffee culture.

Retro Tabi Tokyo wants to share with you love for a part of Japan which is slowly disappearing, a Japan out of the tracks. Japan is changing really fast, a lot of buildings are demolished and these ones are often treasures full of history, disappearing silently. This part of Japan is very dear to our hearts and this blog hopes to give you a little taste of it. You will definitely fall for it too if you learn more about it.

On this blog you will mostly find old japanese coffee shops (kissaten), but also shitamachi («downtown») with its charming atmosphere, delicious and mouthwatering things, secret spots full of history and few little things full of nostalgia. Actually, a perfect blend of coffee and retro love, which, we hope, will satisfy Japan enthusiasts.
